This weekend, the RSPCA is hosting Clear the Shelter, a national event offering reduced adoption prices to help get as many animals into their forever homes as possible.
Eight-year-old Staffy cross, Sarabi, is just one of many long-term residents in shelters across the country still waiting to find the special family that will give them a home for life.
Sarabi came into RSPCA Queensland pregnant with her final litter of puppies.
Now desexed, she’s ready to spend the rest of her life as the perfect companion to the right family – but after 208 days in care, staff cannot understand why Sarabi keeps being overlooked by potential adopters.
At RSPCA NSW, Kevin the Great Dane has an even sadder story – he’s been in care since January 2019, and is still to find his forever family, through no fault of his own.
That may all change this weekend, with the RSPCA hosting its annual Clear the Shelters event, with all animals in care both in shelters and participating Petbarn stores, offered for a reduced adoption fee in the hopes of getting as many furred and feathered friends into their forever homes as possible.
“This time of year can be especially busy for RSPCA Animal Care Centres, with kitten season in full swing and many dogs still in care after months of waiting,” RSPCA Australia Chief Executive Officer Richard Mussell said.
“Clear the Shelters is a chance for us to rehome as many animals as possible, and to raise the profile of some of the animals that tend to be overlooked. The more potential adopters coming into our shelters, the more opportunities for each of our animals to find their home.
“All adoptions will still follow our usual rigorous assessment processes to make sure animals are going to homes that match their needs. We hope to see plenty of animal-loving Australians who are looking for their next companion animal visiting RSPCAs across the country this weekend, to help us clear our shelters to make space for even more animals in need.”
Clear the Shelters will take place from Friday 21 February to Sunday 23 February 2020 in NSW, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, ACT and Darwin, with adoptions priced from just $29 for this weekend only. All normal adoption proceses apply. Find out more at https://www.rspca.org.au/adopt-pet.
