RSPCA urges Joyce not to turn his back on animal welfare

RSPCA Australia is calling on Minister for Agriculture Barnaby Joyce to abandon any plans to scrap or change the Exporter Supply Chain Assurance System following his recent trip to Saudi Arabia.

Any nation unwilling to meet ESCAS requirements should not be allowed to import Australian animals as it will allow the continuation of poor practices that don’t even meet OIE guidelines.

ESCAS was put in place following systemic animal cruelty and is the bare minimum that should be required.

There must be increased investment in the boxed meat trade in order to secure new markets for Australian producers and ensure the welfare of our animals.
